Enlightenment

Empty Mind

Meditation is the way of total elimination of the restless mind. When we are with the breath (be with the breath not do the breath, body will do breath).

our mind becomes empty, and we keep to the regular practice of the same, a beautiful thing happens ! The restless waves of the mind totally cease ! A calm, peaceful and tranquil mind is established ! The mind becomes totally empty !

As more and more time is spent in being with the breath the mind become absolutely empty … sans any trace of thoughts !

When the mind is totally empty, huge amounts of cosmic energy begin to flood into the body ! More the emptiness of the mind, more the in-flow of cosmic energy !

Practical Guide to Meditation

Brief History of Meditation

Meditation has been around for thousands of years it was speculated that the first meditation was developed by primitive hunter-gatherer societies where they archived an altered state of consciousness while staring at the flames of their fires. Around 5000 BC, it was developed into a practice in India, the Indian scriptures called meditation 'tantras'. Then around 500 BC the major icon for meditation came about in the form of Buddha. It was this meditation practices that spread across Asia and many different cultures created there own names and version of this meditation. Still today the Buddhist and Hindu-based forms of meditation are still the most popular today.

Physiological Benefits of Meditation

Today the medical world recognizes meditation for the many physiological benefits it provides our bodies. It has been used to treat anxiety, stress, and depression. It gives us better control and provides us the ability to think clearly. Also by using meditation they treat many of the additions smoking, drug and alcohol allowing people to break these additions. Also allowing people to reduce their blood pressure and reduce symptoms of pre-menstrual syndrome and menopause.

Research done by Herbert Benson, M.D., a professor at Harvard Medical School, showed that meditation counteracts the effects of the sympathetic nervous system. The sympathetic nervous system provides humans the desire to fight or flee in any conflict situation. Whilst needed by primitive man for hunting today has a negative affect and main course for stresses in the modern style of life. During meditation, your body redirects the blood flow to the parasympathetic nervous system. This part of your brain that triggers relaxation, reduces your pulse rate and conserves energy.

How Meditation Works

Meditation is very simple but is one of the most important things you will learn in your life. Here we will break it down into there easy steps.

Step 1 - Starting with our normal state of mind also know as the 'Scattered Mind' this is a orchestra of thoughts of everything that is going on in your day to day life, 'What do i need to buy at the shops', 'What time is dinner going to be', 'What are we going to eat for dinner'. In this state is very easy to be distracted and unable to concentrate of an we tend to worry about unimportant things. This collage of thoughts is some positive and negative.

Deep Relaxation

Deep Relaxation

This first thing with any relaxation, is learning to breath correctly. You would think its easy to breath as we do it all the time, but getting the right technique is something we have to learn.

Whilst taking a deep breath, breathe in though your nose and out through your mouth. We also need to use the full capacity of your lungs. You can achieve this by focusing on your diaphragm, which is located towards the base of your ribcage. By placing your hands on or just below your ribcage, then take a deep breath and you should feel abdomen expand, not your chest. When you exhale start with your diaphragm and slowly contract your diaphragm. If you practice this enough you will find it should come naturally.

Rhythmic breathing can also help, this can be done by breathing in, then hold, then breath out. If you breath in to the count of four then hold for half that count then breath out.

i.e. Breath In - 1, 2, 3, 4 : Pause - 1, 2 : Breath Out - 1, 2, 3, 4 : Pause - 1, 2
